Devices For Oxygen Therapy
To carry out the oxygen therapy, there are mainly three kinds of oxygen devices to choose.
The first one is a compressed oxygen cylinder, this type the oxygen is stored under pressure in a steel or aluminum canisters and must be purchased from a supplier. Many hospitals use this steel type which is connected to an oxygen delivery device. The advantage of this type of oxygen supply is that it is affordable, it does not need a power supply easy to get but the advantage is that it is heavy and it needs to be refilled on a continuous basis. In the market you can get it in different capacity, 2L, 3L, 4L, 6L, 8L, 10L, 15L, and 40L. The storage is calculated under 130 ATM (standard atmospheric pressure), 2L=260L oxygen ,3L= 390L oxygen,… 40L = 5200 L oxygen.
The second one is Liquid oxygen. liquefied form of oxygen that turns into a gas when released. Like compressed gas, liquid oxygen must be purchased and stored in container and may include an oxygen-conserving device. The type device can store the liquid oxygen from 18.16~45.4kg, in normal working pressure, 0.45kg liquid oxygen equals to 344L gaseous oxygen. Usually, the general portable liquid oxygen cylinder is about 4kg. The advantages of the device is the low pressure, high oxygen storage, light to carry and easy to refill, it is suitable for long term rehabilitation, but it is expensive.
The third one is oxygen concentrators. This device uses the electricity and eliminates the N2, CO2 in the air, they function like air filters that remove everything except oxygen from the air. Once this filtration occurs, you can reach almost 100% pure oxygen with the device. There are two kinds at present, the Lovego portable oxygen concentrator, simply go POC; the other is membrane concentrator, which is based on the different through rate of various gas. The advantages of the devices is that to store and refill oxygen which saves you money in the long run and it is more convenient for home. The price may be quite expensive and can be a bit noisy depending on the type you get, some may be a bit heavier than others but there is portable types making it easy to move around with.
